About Me

Welcome

My name is Nichole, and I’m the counsellor behind Counselling In Kirkham. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and the work I do.

My Journey Into Counselling

My counselling journey began at 19, when I first studied for a BA (Hons) in Counselling Psychotherapy with Psychology. I’ve always felt drawn to supporting others, understanding people’s experiences, and exploring what shapes us. Life took me in other directions for a while, but the desire to work in this field never left. Eventually, I returned to my path and completed a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

Professional Values

I’m an individual member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions. I aim to offer a compassionate, grounded, and non-judgemental space where you can explore whatever you’re going through at your own pace.

Why I Created Counselling In Kirkham

When planning my own practice, I noticed a gap—something I experienced in my own life and within the community. Many people wait months to access counselling, many people struggle with affordability or availability.

Counselling In Kirkham was created to help bridge that gap and offer support that feels approachable, accessible, and rooted in understanding.

Please read on for more information about my practice and a way forward

Together, we will work at a pace that feels right for you, with the aim of strengthening your emotional resilience, deepening self-understanding and supporting meaningful change.

Explore and make sense of the emotions you’re dealing with, such as anxiety, sadness and anger, so they don’t feel so heavy.

Find kinder, more manageable ways to cope with stress and overwhelm.

Work on rebuilding your sense of self and the way you see yourself.

Figure out what a more authentic, fulfilling life looks like for you and take steps towards it at your own pace.

I am an empathetic therapist with experience supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional, relational and life challenges. My approach is Person Centred Therapy which is grounded in creating a safe, non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences with honesty and compassion.

I work with clients experiencing depression, anxiety, low mood, anger and self-criticism, as well as those struggling with low self-esteem, self-worth. Many of the people I support come to therapy feeling uncertain about their direction in life or finding it difficult to trust their own decisions.

Relationship issues are a common focus of my work, including conflict with partners, family members or friends, as well as relationship breakdowns and family changes. I also help clients navigate workplace stress, major life transitions such as becoming a parent or starting a new job and the impact of trauma or difficult past experiences.

I have experience supporting individuals through grief and loss, whether following bereavement or the loss of a relationship, role or future plans.

My practice is inclusive and affirming. I have experience working with neurodivergent clients and individuals from minority communities. I strive to understand the unique contexts and pressures that shape each person’s story, ensuring therapy is responsive to your lived experience.

Where are we based?

Sometimes taking the first step into counselling can feel overwhelming, which is why I like to be as open and transparent as possible about what to expect.

Sessions can take place online, via telephone or face to face, whatever feels most comfortable for you.

If you choose to come in person, the counselling room is based in the heart of Kirkham and is easy to access in two different ways: either from Poulton Street or through a quieter, more discreet entrance on Mill Street with free parking available.

The room is located downstairs in Office 5, on the ground floor and is immediately on your right as you enter. It’s a calm, welcoming space where you can take your time and feel at ease.

Your first step....

You can contact me through this website, by phone or by email, whatever feels right and comfortable for you. From there, we can arrange a time and date for a free 30 minute initial consultation. This can take place either face to face, via telephone or online.

This first meeting gives you the opportunity to visit the space, share what brings you here and what you’re hoping for from counselling. It also enables you to learn more about what I can offer. It’s an opportunity for you to get a sense of me and how I work, as the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of everything we do.

There is no pressure to make any decisions during this consultation. It’s simply so you can feel informed, supported and confident about whether you would like to move forward.

After the consultation, I’ll leave the next step with you. If you feel it’s the right fit, just let me know and we can book your first session and talk about how you would like to proceed.
